What is AI Art?

AI art is artwork created with the help of artificial intelligence. Instead of putting brush to canvas or working directly with traditional tools, an artist can use an AI system to generate, alter or develop an image from a written description, an existing image or a combination of ideas.

The idea of using machines to create art is not entirely new. Artists have been experimenting with computers and algorithms for decades, but modern AI has made the process accessible to almost anyone. A few words can now produce an image in seconds, while more advanced tools allow artists to refine, manipulate and combine generated elements.

This raises an interesting question: who is the artist? Is it the person who writes the prompt, the people who created the AI system, or the machine itself? There is no universally accepted answer, and the debate has become part of the art itself.

AI is therefore not simply replacing traditional art. It is becoming another tool in the artist’s toolbox — one that challenges our ideas about creativity, originality and what it actually means to make art.
